The Secret To Unlocking Elite Body Composition

I have a secret…

I don’t always feel motivated.
In fact, I rarely do.

And that’s why I don’t rely on motivation to do what I do.

You heard that right.
And I’ll say it again.

I don’t rely on motivation – and that’s how I became a World Champion.

Because pros? They don’t rely on something that is fleeting.

They don’t depend on something that is unreliable.

They don’t bank on something that changes so often and unpredictably like the weather in Melbourne. Lol

Though it’s still a fabulous tool… 

Motivation can make you feel powerful!
Capable!
Productive!

But IF and ONLY IF… 

It shows up.

So going back to the question:

How can you stay “consistent” with your goals and your process even when you’re not motivated?

You don’t rely on something that is inconsistent. 
Rather, rely on something that IS:

Organisation.

Why organisation?

Organisation lays out before you ALL the things that you need to do in the morning, at noon, in the afternoon, at night…

And ALL the things that you want to achieve daily, weekly, monthly, yearly.

You pre-plan your meals... 
(Not while waiting in the lunch line.)

You periodise your training… 
(Plan out your hard days & rest days.)

You make a timeline of when you would want to achieve a certain milestone…

By which month do you aim to get on stage?
How long do you need to prepare for that?

That’s exactly how I won the world championship.

The best thing about this? 

You don’t have to fight for consistency.

You don’t have to think SO hard about starting and finishing everything all the time.

It just becomes a part of your daily life.
Something that you’d naturally do.

And that’s the level of mastery you will create in SMP. 🙂

How To Truly Attain Success: Overcoming Fear Around Failure

I wanted to start a podcast. 
I had planned to do that for a year.

But I was fearful about failing at podcasting. 
I stopped me from starting.

What if I fail…
What if I can’t pull it off…
What if I can’t get guests…

Starting feels overwhelming.

When Your Outside Doesn’t Match Your Inside

"I feel really strong.
I work really hard.
I am proud of my efforts everyday.

So why don't I look the part?

I wish I could wear my hard work.

When I don't see it, it makes me feel the opposite.
Like I’m never working hard enough.

It’s hard to show up at the gym and feel that.

It makes it hard to even do the work.
But I do.

I keep showing up!!!
It’s just there’s not much joy in it.

I have high standards!!
Only they hurt.

Not physically, but it hurts my heart…
It hurts to hear what I say to myself when I stop and listen.

Only a ship that’s sailing in the wrong direction only gets further away from its destination when it goes faster.

I’ve been to the seminars.
I’ve read the books.
I’ve done the course.
I listened to the podcast.

They seem to work fine for everyone else.
Only they aren’t working for me.

Client Story: How This Amazing Mum Went From Crying in the Mirror To Rocking It In A Photoshoot

Today’s transformation story features our amazing client, @sophiebush___.

Prior to joining SMP, Sophie had been having a really hard time finding herself.

“I was so lost.

“I had no idea how to move forward, challenge & heal myself both physically & mentally.

And coming to SMP, she actually looked phenomenal.

She was really in amazing shape.
She was really lean.

Only problem: she didn’t think so.
She could hardly even walk past the mirror.

“I was in a really toxic relationship with myself where I experienced disordered eating patterns, overtraining, anxiety and losing my cycle.”

Until one day, she came across a video of an SMP athlete on her Instagram.

“…what oozed out of the video was what I so desperately wanted for myself – the self-compassion, confidence & the self-forgiveness.”

And after 10 months of waiting… 
She finally joined SMP, and went all in.

She began eating more, moving less 
& began to stop looking in the mirror with so much disgust.

“I stopped exercising 
and began training, 
like an athlete, with purpose.

And that created a ripple effect on her children, her partner, and her life.

Remember when she could barely walk past the mirror?

Are You Failing At Personal Development?

Change your thoughts. 
Think positive.

It sounds simple, doesn’t it?

That if we fail to do such a simple thing, we feel like we are failing at personal development.

Perhaps we can hold on a little longer – 
maybe we just need to practise more.

Change your thoughts.
Just think positive.

So that’s what you did.

And it worked.

Only for a while.
(Been there, done that.)

You have to reframe your thoughts again and again because the negative thoughts just keep coming back.

But that doesn’t mean you are failing self-development.

Because we can’t simply change things at an outcomes level. 
We need to know where the source is.

So where do those thoughts come from?
What triggers these thoughts?

Hint: Definitely not another thought.

The answer?
It’s in the body.

Body reacts → emotion arises → thought follows

Your story follows your state.

If our nervous system is tense, so too will be our emotions and thoughts.

And we are not reframing any thoughts.

We can only soften them by acknowledging all our parts – the high-achieving and the gentle, the disciplined and the flexible.

By doing so, our nervous system starts to settle, 
then our emotions and thoughts soften.

How can we do that?

The 3 Training Pillars You Need to Achieve & Sustain Elite Physique

When it comes to training (and getting the most out of your training)...

There are 3 pillars 
that I practise and teach our girls at SMP.

The first is - 

Execution or Technique.

(This should always come first BEFORE load is applied.)

Technique is going to tell your body which muscles to use.
And what is going to grow.

It’s about how you can lift safely and effectively to help change your body sustainably.

As we always say to our girls at SMP:

Perfect practice makes perfect.

So you practise 
and you practise…

Until you master and nail each movement perfectly.

Which is what 
training is actually all about.

And speaking of practice…

The next one is…

Effort.

… or being able to sit in discomfort.

Here’s what I do…

Something that’s always helped me to be mindful in my bodybuilding journey, in my exercise, in my technique…

…is not just looking at 15 reps

Rather, ONE rep 15X.

See the difference there?

1 rep 15x means practising execution and effort for EVERY single rep.

It means giving EVERY single rep your 100%.

And that brings us to the next pillar…

Intensity.

...which is:

Showing up at the gym even through resistance…

And walking away knowing that you applied some sort of progressive overload into your training block…

Whether that’s load, reps, 
a shorter rest period, 
increased range in motion, 
or a longer tempo.

In this way, you keep your body challenged and adapt to fresh stress for it to keep changing.

So the question now is:

Can you push yourself to a space where the discomfort rings in your body?

Can YOU practise that effort and apply that at every single rep—at every single set?

How hard can you work?

In SMP, you will learn:

How To Grow Effectively (Hint: It’s Not What You Think)

The woman you see in the photo, left and right, are the same person.

Both work the hardest.
Both are high-performing.
Both are high-achieving.

The difference?

(Hint: It’s not just what you see.)

The woman on the left has high standards but, 

There is no nurturing.
No self-compassion.

The one on the right? 

She still has high standards, 
but these standards are now wrapped in self-love.

I’m still grateful for the woman on the left.

She became her own soldier.
She was strong.
She was firm.

Except that she thought her rigidness would armor her against the blows – but she only found herself beaten on her own.

The woman on the right? 
She is still that lioness. 

But she doesn’t have to prove to herself or to anyone else that she is the queen of the jungle, because she already is. Her presence is enough.

She is disciplined and flexible.
She works the hardest in any room she finds herself in but she is also the life of the party.

She acknowledges all parts of herself – 
both the high-achieving and the gentle – 
and nurtures them. 

(And that is what made the difference.)

Because having high standards without self-compassion is self-bullying.

You don’t grow from punishment; you grow from love.

and those bits become goals.

A goal then gets a date.

Set the date, then you start to break it down into a process.
Sticking to that process is how you start to measure your progress.

When you are challenged 
you exercise discipline 
and stick to your process.

Sticking to your process,
creates progress.

Your progress creates small wins 
which help you build confidence.

Discipline + Process = Progress 

Which creates Confidence.

You become more confident.

All of those small wins add up 
and soon you have success.

Success then creates even bigger dreams 
and more confidence.

The amazing journey of growth and continual development continues and grows deeper and deeper.

Like a snowball rolling down a slope – 
eventually, you are unstoppable.

You are transformed, confident and successful.
You literally live in your dreams.

How to Achieve and Maintain Elite Body Composition

Heaps of girls wonder how I stay lean all year round.

They think…

“Maybe it’s clean eating!”
“You must always be in a deficit! Aren’t you?”
“You must do crazy cardio workouts right?”

And the answer is -

None of the above.

Though I used to think that way as well.

Many women get themselves into this cycle, where they burn so much that there’s nothing left over for their body to function on.

You might catch yourself depriving your body of the food that you want, labelling it as a bad food, having “cheat meals”...

I’m sad to say, this is normal for the industry.
But it doesn’t have to be normal for you.

I don’t live like that and I don’t have to
to have elite body composition…

And neither do you.

So, how can YOU achieve AND maintain elite body composition?

It’s not some big bang answer really…
And I’ll say it straight away…
Food.

And actually seeing food as a fuel (not an enemy!).

A fuel for you to move with great energy and grace,
To perform at a high-level constantly,
To think clearly and get stronger in mind and body.

You need food to live.

And I’m saying that as someone who has gone from having an ED to becoming a WBFF World Champion. 

Right now, I don’t think about burning calories anymore.

I don’t eat “clean.”
I don’t eat “healthy.”
I eat FOOD.

And that’s how I’m able to: 
not only stay lean, 
but also vibrant, all year round.
