How do we deal with fear?

Have you ever taken a moment to be curious about your relationship with fear?

Not just the fear itself -

Where are you coming from?
What are you worried about?

But your relationship WITH it.

Maybe you’re a fear bunny.

Maybe when fear knocks on your door,
you scamper into a hidey hole and don’t come out until danger has passed.

Or maybe you’re a fear junkie.

Maybe you purposely seek out fear,
push yourself through the experience and hunt it down.

Or maybe you’re somewhere in the middle, where you take a little bit longer to decide on doing the things you fear but you ultimately get around to it in the end.

Your relationship with fear is actually a really important informer.

Are you a fear bunny?
Perhaps you can explore how your fear makes you hide

And it’s really not talked about enough because we live in a Western culture that says -

You must eradicate it…
Push through it…
Deny it…

“Be fearless”
“You can conquer anything at any time.”

But nowhere are we taught the real purpose of fear.

Your fear is a biological strategy to keep you alive and safe.
Pre-historic coolness.

It’s just in a modern world,
it makes it difficult to do the things we want to do and be the person we want to be.

So you do the things they tell you to do to

“Conquer your fear”...

But have you noticed that it doesn’t dull your fear,
It actually amplifies it?

That’s because fear isn’t something you can eradicate.
So what should be do instead?

Well, we can notice it.
(Seems way harder)

We can stay with it. 
We can build a relationship around it.

So it can be an informer for discernment. 

Not shutting down.
Not running away.

But instead, an advisor at pivotal forks in the road that help inform us.
But not prevent us from living.
