Kangaroos Can't Walk Backwards

First of all it’s physically impossible for them.

Kangaroos use not only their legs but also their tails - which are pure muscle - to propel themselves forward.Attempt this in reverse? You’d end up with a comical image of legs, tail and tiny front paws scrambling the air.

Aside from the physical - kangaroos don’t go backwards because they aren’t meant to.

Imagine a kangaroo: soaring across the plain in leaps and bounds with her mob. She’s effortless, graceful; she’s queen of the desert - and she knows it.

So, if it’s so unnatural for a kangaroo to move backwards - it’s criminal to try to restrain her.  I’m sure you can probably relate.

She has her vision. She knows where she’s going; she knows what she’s capable of.

But something’s holding her back.

She’s frustrated. She’s putting in the work (she’s the hardest worker in the room, in fact).

It just feels un-natural.

There are times where we feel like we’re doing everything we can… but the results aren’t coming.

So what goes wrong?

  • The first thing that has a major effect on results is lack of consistency. Consistency is one of the hardest things to nail - and often the most overlooked.  Remember, consistency and effort aren’t the same thing.
  • Then we have the trap of following unnecessary trends. Trying new things is great, but changing styles every other week just because there was a cool Instagram post about it isn’t helping your results.
  • Finally, diet. Not eating the right foods - or, as is often the case, not eating enough of them - can kill your results before they hit the ground.

So what to do when you’re getting held back by the dreaded plateau?

Lucky for you, I have some very hot tips to help you unleash your inner desert queen...

(These are tips that worked for me, and worked for hundreds of women I’ve coached in my program, The Sports Model Project.)

  • Understand where you are right now and where you want to be.  A map is useless if you don’t know where you are and where you want to go.  Every person has a different start point and different end point.
  • Get real about consistency. Sure, you’ve been working hard in the gym for years. You’re almost always the hardest worker in the room! But when you embark on something (especially elite-level training), if you’re not consistent across the board, you’re chopping and changing looking for the next best thing.
  • Choose a game plan and stick to it. Find someone who can help you hit your goals and build a plan with them. Then stick to it — they’ll be your sherpa and guide you along the way to your everest.

These are all practices I teach in my program, The Sports Model Project. It’s a culmination of everything I learnt over the years training to be a world champion sports model.

A process of transformation and personal mastery.
