Killer Results? Or Killing Your Progress?

Did you know that the human body adapts well when exposed to stress? (https://med.libretexts.org/@go/page/11128)

Stress can be a good thing. 
You need some extra push to grow and become stronger.

Exercise, for example, is a type of stress.

So when we train, we are trying to create the right amount of stress 
on the muscle to grow it.

In our case, doing weights creates a stress on the muscle called mechanical tension.

We use load as a proxy for the amount of tension our muscle fibres experience.

And if the mechanical tension is great enough? 
Your muscle fibres will be slightly stronger and slightly bigger.

But beware: you can over do it.

Because our exercise is not our only stressor.

What happens when we constantly fatigue ourselves under the bar?
and have too much going on at work?
and have a lot of stress with the family?

Our bodies end up not recovering enough.

And instead of getting killer results? 
You’ll only end up killing your progress.

And of course, that’s not what you want.
So it's about balancing the enough stress for growth, with enough recovery.

Another in-gym element that’s often overlooked is: technique.

Technique can completely change the tension our muscles will experience at a given weight.
It can also completely change which muscles experience that tension.

Load + Technique + Range of Motion = Mechanical Tension

So you can adjust the mechanical tension by changing any of these variables.
Being able to apply this in smart way with periodisation and progressive overload can completely revolutionise your results.
