Ruh Roh, The holidays are coming

Every year, like clockwork, a question is ignited in the minds of girls on their fitness journey everywhere.

“How am I going to handle the holidays”

While it’s important that you are devoted to your training, it’s not a crime to loosen your rein sometimes — especially when it’s time to relax and be present with your family.

Imagine what happens to a thread when pulled too tight? It frays. It strains. It breaks.

My girls are not new to this feeling; they have felt what you are feeling right now.

So a while back, I had this interesting observation among my girls, which I’d love to share with you. They were split into 3 groups:

The first had their best holiday break ever. They still managed to keep up with their training and still tracked what they ate without feeling drained or pressured to do so out of guilt.

The second group took their last two weeks off as they were in a great place mentally. They decided to give themselves a break from structure, discipline, and routine.

The third had some more challenges. Like the other groups, they try to loosen up by not sticking to their plan, but they feel really guilty while doing this. They are worried about not being able to recover or get back on track or that not hitting their macros can ruin EVERYTHING.

So what does this mean for you?

It means what you feel now is normal.
There was a time I would have felt the same.

I’d train on Christmas day so that I could “burn off” the extra food eaten that day.
I know how you’re feeling.

But what if during the holidays you could practice being present.

With your family.

With your loved ones.

With yourself.

Now look, this is not something you’re going to master overnight.

It takes time learning how to balance our goals, being disciplined, and being playful.
And it takes a process of transformation and personal mastery.
